My name is Grace Reams, and I am 20 years old. I attend Nash Community College, and will graduate in the spring of 2021 with an Associates of Arts degree to transfer to East Carolina University this summer to obtain a Bachelors of Elementary Education. I have always enjoyed being with children, and when given the opportunity, I started teaching in groups at my church. My favorite part is when a child has a “light bulb moment”, and they finally grasp something. My goal as a future teacher is to make an impact on student’s lives both academically and
socially. I wish to be a part of every child’s life that I teach, watching them build on their foundational knowledge that they learn in elementary years and applying it to their lives as they grow older. I believe that teachers have a great influence on their students as they teach school lessons along with applicable life lessons. I was asked for one trait that indicates my likelihood of being a superior teacher. In response to that question, I would have to say perseverance. Teaching is not all mountain top experiences, but with perseverance I know I can make it
through. I am not the kind of person to give up easily, and I believe that student’s need that in their education. I learned a lot from my elementary teachers, and they have definitely influenced my career choice. I hope to be as great of a teacher to my students as they were to me. It will be an honor to join the many great teachers in my society. I am also very grateful to have received this scholarship, and I could not have made it this far without the help and support of my loving family. After I graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education, I plan to seek out a job teaching elementary age children.
